Ruler
Verica · c. AD 10–40
King south of the Thames; son of Commius on coins
Verica ruled the and south of the Thames from about AD 10 to about AD 40, from a kingdom centred on today's Sussex and east Hampshire. His coins call him a son of Commius (), and many of his designs, like the cornucopiae on this , are copied from Roman coins. He is almost certainly the 'Bericus' who, Cassius Dio says, was driven out of Britain by an uprising and persuaded the emperor Claudius to invade in AD 43.,,
Known for Issuing one of the largest and most Roman-looking coinages of Iron Age Britain, and, as 'Bericus', appealing to Claudius before the Roman conquest.
