Ruler
FreeVerica · c. AD 10–40
Verica ruled the and south of the Thames from about AD 10 to about AD 40, from a kingdom centred on today's Sussex and east Hampshire. His coins call him a son of Commius, and he struck many types, often copying Roman designs. Rome recognised him as king (rex). He is almost certainly the 'Bericus' who, Cassius Dio says, was driven out of Britain by an uprising and persuaded the emperor Claudius to invade in AD 43.,,
Known for Issuing one of the largest and most Roman-looking coinages of Iron Age Britain, and, as 'Bericus', appealing to Claudius in the lead-up to the Roman conquest.
